The Baltic Capitals – 7-Day Classic Tour

Welcome to Tallinn. Your local guide and driver meet the group at the airport for the transfer to the hotel. Depending on arrival time, there is a chance for a first look at the Old Town.

In the evening the group gathers for dinner in a medieval-style restaurant in the heart of the Old Town.

Overnight in Tallinn

The morning is given to the Old Town, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. With a local guide you walk up to Toompea Hill for the views over the red-tiled roofs and the onion domes of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, then descend through cobbled lanes to Town Hall Square.

In the afternoon the Soviet Flashback tour shows a very different side of the city. The highlight is the KGB Museum on the 23rd floor of the Sokos Hotel Viru – a room that officially did not exist, from which the security service listened in on foreign guests below.

Overnight in Tallinn

Drive south to Pärnu, Estonia’s summer capital, for a stroll along the seaside promenade. Cross into Latvia and continue to Sigulda in the Gauja valley, often called the Switzerland of Latvia.

Lunch beside Turaida Castle, followed by a guided visit of the red-brick castle complex and the wooded valley around it. Arrive in Riga in the early evening for a first walk through the Old Town.

Overnight in Riga

A guided morning in the UNESCO-listed centre of Riga: St Peter’s Church, the House of the Blackheads and Riga Cathedral, followed by the Art Nouveau quarter along Alberta and Elizabetes streets.

In the afternoon, a short drive to Jūrmala, Latvia’s classic seaside resort, for a walk along the white-sand beach and among the ornate wooden summer villas.

Overnight in Riga

Depart for Rundāle Palace, the masterpiece of architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli and the finest baroque building in the Baltic States. Tour the restored state rooms and the formal French gardens, with lunch at the palace.

In the afternoon, cross into Lithuania and continue to Vilnius, arriving in time for an evening stroll through the Old Town.

Overnight in Vilnius

A guided walk through the Old Town of Vilnius, the largest surviving medieval quarter in Northern Europe: Cathedral Square, the Gate of Dawn and the bohemian Užupis district. Explore the courtyards of Vilnius University and climb the bell tower of St John’s Church for one of the finest views over the city.

Continue to Trakai for lunch in a traditional Karaim restaurant and a visit to the island castle on Lake Galvė. Return to Vilnius for the farewell dinner.
